Yazid Abdul Withrow Thomas, 18, was arrested in Woodbridge on Monday, Jan. 9, following an investigation into an incident involving a school bus occupied by a driver and one student, according to officials.

Shortly before 4 p.m. on Monday afternoon, police say that they were called to the intersection of Rollingwood Drive and Jenny Drive to investigate reports of projectiles that were shot at the bus.

While responding to the area, officers found a gel-pellet gun on the ground near two teen boys who matched the description of suspects involved in the shooting. Both were taken into custody without incident.

The initial investigation determined that Thomas was walking in the area when he fired multiple gel-based projectiles that struck the school bus. He then left the area on foot. When he was apprehended, officers say that he was also found to be in possession of marijuana.

No injuries were reported.

Thomas was charged with:

  • Shooting missiles at an occupied vehicle;
  • Brandishing a firearm;
  • Possession of marijuana by a person under the age of 21.

Bond was set at $2,500. His initial court date is pending.
